180-degrees at Hudson River Park (Pier 54)

Hudson River Park is one of my favorite places in New York City. But there’s one part of the park that I really love and that’s the remnants of Pier 54 just below 14th Street.

At the moment, Pier 54 is a gigantic slab of concrete and gravel that extends quite far into the Hudson River. It’s very wide and very long and every time I go, there are only a few people making use of one of the larger flat surfaces in and around New York City. I love going in there to just ride circles on my bike or walk around and look across to New Jersey.

I don’t know why more people don’t make use of the space as it is free to enter. But hey, for now, I’m really liking that it’s so quiet and desolate there.

Today, I was there just killing some time and I decided to take a 180-degree panorama of the view towards the East. Click on the image above for a larger version.

The pictures are coming along nicely, but until I get them all processed, you can enjoy this panorama of the famed murals painted by Chris Pape, also known as Freedom.

For those who don’t know, the tunnel is nicknamed after him because of his prominent graffiti murals which still exist in there today.

Richard Chesher’s underwater reef panorama makes me long for another deep-sea dive. It’s been over a year since my last one and I’m itching to strap another oxygen tank to my back and jump into the sea. [via]

Panorama from inside the Telstra Dome

Telstra Dome was where I saw my first footy game and also very close to where I used to work in Melbourne. I saw the Telstra Dome almost every day during the summer (I passed by it on my way to work) and had a lot of good times inside there watching various footy games with friends.

This big panorama of the Telstra Dome captures the grandeur of this place perfectly. I miss it and I hope to see it again real soon.

Also, this is news to me, but apparently the Telstra Dome will be known as the Etihad Stadium for at least the next 5 years in a sponsorship deal with the national airline of the United Arab Emirates.

Underwater 360-degree VR panoramas

October 30, 2008 @ 8:45 am

All of the 360-degree VR panoramas that I’ve seen up until now have always been on land. But sure enough, at least one person/group is doing VR panoramas underwater and they look amazing!

Check out the gallery of images and QTVR’s at the Refocus Design Agency. [via]

On Monday, October 15, 2007, Airbus made history when it delivered the world’s first complete Airbus A380 to Singapore Airlines.

Airbus has officially handed over the first A380 to Singapore Airlines in a ceremony held at its Delivery Centre Toulouse, France in the presence of over 500 guests. The aircraft was officially handed over to Chew Choon Seng, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Singapore Airlines by Airbus President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Enders in presence of Chief Executive Officer Rolls-Royce Sir John Rose. Singapore Airlines will be the first to fly the A380 on regular scheduled service.

Singapore Airlines also used this opportunity to reveal their new, spacious and luxurious A380-cabin-interior, featuring 471 seats in three classes.

The next generation, eco-efficient double-decker will enter service between Singapore and Sydney, with a special charity-flight, between both cities on 25/26th October. The scheduled services will commence daily from 28th October.

Singapore Airlines has an official countdown page to the world’s first commercial flight of the A380 in its fleet. Expect some major hoo-ha when it officially “launches” on October 25th.
