Renown Cuban fashion illustrator, painter, sculptor, and filmmaker Ruben Toledo has teamed up with Penguin Books to put out 3 of literature’s greatest works in a brand-new illustrated cover series.

Ruben Toledo’s work, which have been featured in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, The New Yorker, Interview, and The New York Times, will don the covers of Wuthering Heights (Emily Bronte), Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen), and The Scarlet Letter (Nathaniel Hawthorne). These are truly remarkable and beautiful paperbacks which Penguin Books has graciously sent over to me for review.

Each book features a French flap and will go on sale for $16 each starting August 25, 2009 (just in time for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City)! If you pre-order on Amazon.com however, you can save a couple of dollars on each title as they are each selling on Amazon.com for $10.88.

Check out some more images of the books below.

Harry Potter books if they were Penguin Classics

If you aren’t keen on the traditional look of the Harry Potter books (I’m personally indifferent to them since I’m not particularly interested in anything about them beyond the cover design), then you should take a look at these redesigned covers for Harry Potter if they were made as Penguin Classics.

M. S. Corley is the person behind this fantastic new look for the books. Unfortunately, these will never hit shelves since the Harry Potter books are published by Scholastic and not Penguin.
