iPod classic to be phased out tomorrow

There’s rumor floating around that the iPod classic will be phased out at the special Apple event planned for tomorrow. This will mean that the iPod shuffle, iPod nano and iPod touch will remain as the sole non-iPhone devices that Apple will sell. This is terrible news because I have long thought that the form of the iPod classic is something not to mess around with. It holds a lot of music (an entire collection at times) and has incredible battery life. At the same time, it resembles the form factor of the original iPod and allows for in-pocket navigation — something you cannot do on an iPod touch which I assume will replace it as the top of the line iPod.

I hope my current iPod classic lasts for several more years so I won’t have to switch to an iPod touch.
