I’m in love with this photo of the Chicago and Northwestern rail locomotive shop taken by Jack Delano. Look at the sparks coming from the guy working near the bottom left of the image. Nice! :)

Probably not the best idea (or the most comfortable spot to rest), but it sure does make for a lovely photo.

The stunning photo above is one of the many notable mentions in the 2008 Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year contest. If you missed the previous year’s winners, you can download them all in a zip file at this link. Ahh, that’s why I love Wikimedia. :)

It’s a bit of a slow day at work, so I’ve been casually browsing the Flickr Commons photo collection. The photos available there never cease to amaze me. Sometimes I use it as a time portal to travel back in time to a place I wish I could have been at.
Here’s a beautiful photo of freight cars in South Water Street freight terminal in Chicago, Illinois along the Illinois Central Railroad track. That glowing Pabst Blue Ribbon sign is just phenomenal.
UPDATE: Here’s another view of the same place and the same sign, but from another angle.
