Photographer gets humped by a rare parrot

October 4, 2009 @ 5:42 pm

BBC Two’s Last Chance To See series recently had a very funny mishap where a rare parrot — a kakapo to be exact — found the photographer so irresistible that it immediately jumped onto his head and started humping away. It was an innocent act, but the parrot did manage to draw some blood out of the photographer. But even with the blood, this turned out to be a pretty funny event for everyone involved.

Shwood Candby wooden sunglasses

October 4, 2009 @ 3:10 pm

A company based in Portland, Oregon is manufacturing these wooden sunglasses frames made from maple, zebrawood, or wenge wood. Each pair comes with Carl Zeiss polarized lenses in either grey or brown. I would love to see one in person and feel how much they weigh, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen any time soon.

How much is it to wear rare woods on your face? Oh, about $95.

A very rare yellow lobster was recently caught off the coast of Canada and gifted to Nathan Nickerson, the owner of Arnold’s Lobster and Clam Bar in Eastham, Massachusetts.

The yellow lobster, which is both orange and yellow in color, is a rare genetic mutation that appears in only 1 in about 30 million lobsters and makes it appear as if the lobster has already been cooked. New England Aquarium director of research Michael Tlusty says that the lobsters bright color actually makes it an easy target for predators, so maybe this one shown here is lucky it was caught by a humans.

A rare 1965 Shelby Cobra is up for auction at Mecum High Performance Auctions and could sell for up to $15 million. If the legendary sports car sells for that price, it will surpass the previous world record for the highest amount a car has ever been sold — $11 million for a Ferrari California Spyder.

The 1965 Shelby Cobra isn’t just expected to sell high because of its great looks. The car has racing history as being the first American racecar to ever beat Ferrari in the world racing championships in Europe. The car is only 1 of 6 ever made and will go on the auction block on May 15th.

Check out the wonderful pictures of the car below.

The desk above is called the P.-D.G. desk by French designer Maurice Calka. The desk was targeted to the richest of clients and people in senior management. In fact, the name itself was an acronym for “Président Directeur Générale”, which pointed directly at someone in higher positions within a company.

In his lifetime, Maurice Calka was known to only have made about 4 or 5 of these desks but Sotheby’s currently has one previously unknown desk up for auction for over 100,000 USD. Bid on it if you want to own a small niche item in furniture design history. [via]
