Reading Rainbow goes off the air after 26 years

August 28, 2009 @ 8:11 pm

I’m sad to report that today marked the last day that PBS would air episodes of Reading Rainbow, a television program for children that I watched fondly as a kid. For those who have never seen it, Reading Rainbow was a wonderful show that helped foster an interest in reading with young people. The show was hosted by LeVar Burton and is the 3rd longest running show to ever air on PBS (after Sesame Street and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, two equally fantastic shows).

The U.S. Department of Labor conducted a survey of Americans to see how they go about spending their annual salaries. Not surprisingly, the largest sums of spending go toward housing and food and healthcare. I love how this infographic shows a 0.2% for “Reading”.

If any of you want a large 3″ button from Book It, you can buy one on eBay for $1 (plus $1.95 shipping). I want the Book It button that had a changing picture on it when you angled it differently, but nobody is selling that one. I can’t even find a picture of it (if you have one from way back, please photograph and send to me please!).

This is the best T-shirt I’ve seen in a long time. [via]

I guess for $18, you might as well draw it yourself with a Sharpie, but honestly, it’ll never look as good as this. No way. NO WAY.
