The Black Reflector 3M jacket

November 4, 2009 @ 2:15 am

Wow, this might be the ultimate safety vest for cycling or walking around when it’s dark. Skateboard company, Manik, and Hugeblocks have teamed up to bring us the Black Refector (Nightrider), a jacket covered almost entirely in 3M reflective material. I love everything about this except for the insane $350 price point. What gives?!

Button made of 3M Scotchlite reflective material

A company in Barcelona called rebaba sells premium badges that are pretty nice looking.

They sell one made entirely with 3M Scotchlite reflective material and you can get it at Supermarket for $6. I think it’s a good alternative to buying and applying reflective tape on a bag (which I have already done, but I would still consider this option in the future).

Milwaukee Bruiser bike that reflects and glows

Prolly posted some photos of people’s Milwaukee Bruiser bicycles and the one shown here with an entire frame that reflects and glows under the right lighting conditions makes me want to do the exact same thing to my future bike frame (I wouldn’t do this on my current frame).

I just wish Beacon Graphics made reflective vinyl tape that was blue like this.

Chrome and Gold plated MacBook Pro laptops

A company called Computer Choppers does some impressive gold and chrome plating work for select Apple products and gadgets. Shown here are two very obnoxious color variations on the normal aluminum or silver-colored MacBook Pro laptops — gold and chrome. [via]

While I would never get any of these for myself, the idea of having a completely chrome-covered laptop is kind of amusing. I would never need a mirror ever again and it would do away with the need for a back-mirror to check up and see if anybody is spying on you at work.

Of course, if you’re using a chrome-plated MacBook Pro, you probably are the boss anyway, so it really doesn’t matter does it? The gold on the other hand is just a bit sickening but still very fascinating to own I think. I must say though that of all the gold-plating options available for the MacBook Pro line, Computer Choppers is so far the best looking in terms of quality. If you’ve got money to burn, throw it at this company because they look like they do good stuff.

DIY Bright Bike kits available!

January 25, 2009 @ 10:00 pm

About a month ago, I posted about Mike and his wonderful project of covering an entire bike in Scotchlite 680 reflective vinyl. At the time of that post, Mike was in the process of trying to get Beacon Graphics to make a smaller consumer version of the Bright Bike reflective kit (because an entire roll cost $100+).

Well, it looks like Mike and his efforts have paid off as he was able to get Beacon Graphics and Eyebeam together on a complete bicycle reflective kit that costs only $40. The Bright Bike DIY kit contains everything you need to turn your bike into a reflective mess! It includes 6 feet of 3M Scotchlite black reflective vinyl, a 4oz spray bottle of prep cleaner, and a felt squeegee.

If you get the kit, make sure you follow the instructions and watch this video to make sure you’re doing it right!
