In June 2006, Truman Duncan, a railroad switch operator at the Gunderson Southwest yard in Cleburne, TX, fell onto the tracks and was run over by a moving train. The incident caused Truman’s body to be taken under the wheels of the train car which weighed about 20,000 pounds. As you can guess, Truman’s body was literally sliced in two, but amazingly, he did not die and was in the right mind to call 911 himself for assistance.

Today, Truman is alive and well and speaking out about the accident and how his life is still rich and full despite the loss of his left leg, pelvis, and kidney. He hopes that his inspiring words will convince war veterans that it is still worth living even if you are seriously injured in war.

In 2008, Truman Duncan and one of the doctors that is credited with saving his life (after 23 surgeries!) sat down with Matt Lauer on the Today Show to talk about the accident and how Duncan is keeping his spirits up and well with family and friends supporting him.
