The sign in question, consisting of large yellow letters that spell out “UNITED STATES”, are hidden partially by the architecture of the border station which was designed by Smith-Miller & Hawkinson. The building itself will remain standing and serve as the border station between Canada and the U.S. and it is just the large signage that will be taken down. I don’t understand how this is going to make it safer for employees and less conspicuous to terrorists. I mean, could this building be anything other than a border station?
Will You Be Here Tomorrow, a 1998 workplace safety video from Educational Resources, Inc., shows the very gruesome side of accidents in the workplace. [via]
The creators of this video don’t seem to have any sort of line drawn in terms of bloodshed, so be warned that the video is graphic (even after knowing that that all of the accidents were filmed used dummies).
The UK’s Department for Transport has created this Tales of the Road website to frighten and teach children about road safety. The PSA’s put out by the Department for Transport are eerie, with characters looking like they came straight out of Coraline or The Nightmare Before Christmas.
In any case, the message so far is clear: Stop, look, and listen and wear bright clothing so you can be seen. Expect two more similarly haunting commercials to be out in the near future.
Christmas has passed already, but knowing the habits of some folks, they’ll probably keep their Christmas trees for another few weeks before tossing them out. If that’s the case, then you better make sure you water it because if you don’t and it somehow catches on fire, you can pretty much kiss your house goodbye.
As seen in this demonstration video from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, a dry Christmas tree can be utterly devastating for any house corner as it will quickly spread fire and black smoke. At one point it looks like the flames are being shot out of a flame thrower!
Here’s another video of a dry Christmas tree fire compared to a Christmas tree on fire that has been fed water. Incredible how intense those flames are on both trees.
