Santogold is now Santigold

santigold

Newsflash for those of you who might have missed it (I did at first), but Santogold is no more. The artist has officially changed her name to Santigold to allegedly avoid a lawsuit from a similarly named artist whose name is Santo Gold.

Santigold’s former Myspace page (myspace.com/santogold) has already been taken down and replaced with a new one. Her official website however is still up at the old domain name but is said to be in the process of moving over to the new name soon. And as you might expect with a name change from a big artist, her Wikipedia page has already been updated and forwarded to reflect the change.

I think the new name is fitting especially since her name is Santi White anyway. It makes more sense to me that she’d be called Santigold. So there you go, now you know.

N.A.S.A. – The Spirit of Apollo

I’ve been following the development of the mega-collaboration between DJ’s Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon ever since it was made known that they were coming together with artists from around the world to form N.A.S.A.

It’s amazing that the two managed to get so many people on board this musical project. There are names like Kanye West, M.I.A., Santogold, The Cool Kids, DJ AM, Ghostface Killah, Tom Waits and many more on one 17-song disc. Of course, with such high-calibre names on queue, N.A.S.A. is setting some very high expectations to be met and they almost get it with the exception of a few tracks. Otherwise, I think the album is quite fun to listen to simply because you get to hear so many styles of lyrical flow in one sitting. Some of my favorite tracks areĀ ”Gift”, “Samba Soul”, “The Mayor”, and “N.A.S.A. Music”.

Anyway, the album drops February 17, 2009, but you can check it out now if you want.

By the way , if you’re wondering about the image above, it’s an image of all 5 official album covers for the album, each designed by a different artist.

Jay-Z feat. Santogold – Brooklyn (We Go Hard)

Jay-Z on iLike – Get updates inside iTunes

Director Evan Roth created this neat music video for the song released by Jay-Z and Santogold called “Brooklyn (We Go Hard)”. The song is reportedly to be used in the upcoming 2009 release of Notorious, a film based on the life and death of The Notorious BIG.

The music video creates an image of Jay-Z and BIG in flowing type that spells out “BROOKLYN”. If you want the source code for the music video file, Evan Roth is giving it away for free download on his website.
