Dawn soap saves wildlife

July 9, 2009 @ 10:22 pm

I think I’ll just go ahead and eradicate all other soap/detergent brands from my head except for Dawn because this is just about the best thing I’ve seen all day. I had no idea Dawn could do such wonderful work!

Thanks Clarence!

This is how the Air Force One photo op should have been done

Scott, the president of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) has reportedly found out that the government spent about $360,000 to do that low fly-by photoshoot of Air Force One around the Statue of Liberty that freaked out people in Lower Manhattan and Jersey City.

Being the president of an association that uses one of the most well-known photo manipulation softwares available, Scott decided to see if he could shave down that hefty pricetag and deliver similar results. Turns out that Scott managed to get the large 747 in front of the Statue of Liberty only after about 2 minutes of fiddling in Photoshop. He used a stock photo of the Statue of Liberty from iStockPhoto.com and the official Air Force One file photo from The White House.

Together, Scott estimates that the job is equivalent to a $360 freezer for an orphanage in Kenya and he’d much rather the government spend that amount of money sensibly than fly the actual 747 very low over New York City. I undoubtedly agree.

Save IE6!

Norman sent me this link to Save IE6, a website that speaks the absolute truth on the whole browser war situation.

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 6 gets a bad rap for being old and outdated, but in reality, it’s actually a very solid browser with quick rendering times and a beautiful interface. Although Firefox, Opera, and Google’s Chrome have tried to keep up with IE6’s forward-thinking attributes, none have quite reached the goal yet of replicating the powerful engine behind what I think is the best Internet Explorer ever made.

And until the other browsers get their act together, something needs to be done about how IE6 is getting bullied around and forced into early retirement. So join up with the people at SaveIE6 and help make IE6 last for an eternity!

JPEG image saved 600 times

Generation Loss from hadto on Vimeo.

Every time you save a JPEG image, information gets lost in the file. Usually the difference is hard to tell, but the fact still remains that a JPEG is a lossy format.

With that said, what if you were to save a JPEG 600 times over and each time you saved it you compressed it a bit more too? This video above shows the results.
