Simon’s Cat in “Hot Spot”

September 29, 2009 @ 11:52 pm

Simon Tofield is back with another animated cartoon featuring his cat ripping up some artwork to shreds just so it can get some artificial light. Haha, cute.

If you haven’t already, check out my book review of Simon’s Cat here.

Book Review: Simon’s Cat by Simon Tofield

Hachette Book Group (Grand Central Publishing) was kind enough to send me an advance copy of Simon’s Cat by Simon Tofield. The book is a comic print form of the hugely popular YouTube video series called Simon’s Cat (if you haven’t seen it, you can check out the videos here).

When I first heard of Simon’s Cat coming in book form, I was a bit skeptical of how it might translate as a comic book. Part of the charm of Simon’s Cat was the ability to see your own cat (or any cat, actually) in the movements shown in the videos. I just wasn’t sure that single frames would translate as well and I was afraid some of that charm would be lost in the transition.

I’m glad to say that it hasn’t. Simon’s Cat is just as amusing and peculiar as the web videos. In fact, the book develops Simon’s Cat further by introducing reoccurring characters like the Cat’s garden gnome friend (which the Cat seems to think is real) and the numerous birds that the Cat is always trying to get its paws on.

Tofield does an amazing job of bringing the odd behaviors of any cat to life in these pages and I have a feeling that both cat-lovers and those who aren’t so fond of our furry friends will like this book. It’s true, everybody does know a cat like Simon’s.

The book is set to be released on September 24, but you can pre-order Simon’s Cat now on Amazon.com for just under $10.

If you’re a fan of Simon’s Cat, the online video shorts of a cute animated cat by Simon Tofield (see “Fly Guy” and “TV Dinner“), then you’ll be very happy to know that Simon is publishing his well-loved cat in book form. Simply titled Simon’s Cat, the book is a 240-page look at the relationship that one man has with his funny and always-hungry cat.

Simon’s Cat is currently on pre-order at Amazon.com with a release date of September 24, 2009. I can’t wait!
