Quick thoughts on the BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac

October 3, 2009 @ 2:51 am

I posted earlier about RIM finally releasing the BlackBerry Desktop Software for the Mac and here is what I think about it: FINALLY! WHAT THE HELL TOOK SO LONG?! I can finally backup my phone data without having to run a virtual operating system. I don’t understand why RIM only saw it fit to release a Mac client now when there have always been BlackBerry users on Mac operating systems.

Why RIM never released a Mac client to begin with is beyond me (since more than just a few of us BlackBerry users are Mac users too), but it looks like RIM is finally coming to its senses. It turns out that the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software for Mac was leaked this morning and now you can go and download it and update, backup and upgrade your BB with ease from your Mac.

Posters show how many 3.5″ floppies it would take to install today’s software

I’ve posted stuff from ANTREPO before (containers and movie posters) and now I’m doing it again because this one is too good to pass up.

For $120, you can buy a limited edition set of 4 posters that illustrate how many 3.5″ floppies it would take to hold today’s software. As an example, ANTREPO has used The Sims 3, Firefox 3, Adobe Photoshop CS4, and iTunes 8; all considerably very large programs to begin with.

While it’d be nice if ANTREPO actually recreated the total amount of disks needed rather than just showing a few disks with a total number count, I think these posters are very good looking. Man, imagine having to insert and eject 1700+ disks just to install The Sims 3!
