If you woke up today and wasn’t quite sure why Kanye West and Taylor Swift were making huge media headlines, here’s what you need to know to be filled in: Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech after she won the award for Best Female Video at the MTV VMAs. He rambled on about Beyonce and basically insulted Taylor Swift and every respectable attendee and viewer of the show.

Thankfully, Beyonce later allowed Swift to complete her acceptance speech. To sum it up, I think The New York Times says it quite well.

Beyoncé called Ms. Swift out to the stage to let her make the speech Mr. West had train-wrecked. A soul singer making room for a young country star who’d been bullied by a rapper: it was indelibly 2009.

Kanye really outdid himself this time.

Joe Wilson is your pre-existing condition

If you haven’t heard the big political news lately, I’ll fill you in: South Carolina Republican Representative Joe Wilson shouted “You lie!” at President Barack Obama during his speech on health care and was subsequently turned into the enemy of the entire government for being disorderly and disruptive. To that end, a lot of people are angry at his lack of professionalism and have created websites like Joe Wilson Is Your Pre-Existing Condition which is a poke at what a horrible person he might be.

Check out the video below of him interrupting the President.

Sarah Palin’s resignation speech edited and corrected

Vanity Fair did us all a favor and took Governor Sarah Palin’s resignation speech — complete with all of its run-ons and bad grammar — and had various editors correct it and mark it up. The result, as you can imagine, is colorful from beginning to end. Palin isn’t known to me the most eloquent person with her words and this corrected and edited resignation speech is proof that what she says normally really can’t (or shouldn’t) be understood.

I put the pages into a single PDF so you can avoid Vanity Fair’s pagination. So get the PDF here: Megaupload.

Barack Obama makes people faint

April 28, 2009 @ 9:40 pm

President Barack Obama recently witnessed a person in the crowd at FBI headquarters faint as he was giving a speech and Gawker dug up a video of Obama making several other people faint during his Presidential campaign. Apparently, the President has a certain type of effect on people that causes them to fall over either from fear, joy, and/or disbelief. Kinda funny actually.

You have earned the new puppy that’s coming with us to the White House

This video is a bit old (dated November 2008) but I just saw it for the first time after Yelena shared it with me. It’s a video by video remix artist Eclectic Method focused around the now somewhat infamous phrase that Barack Obama uttered as he gave his victory speech on November 4, 2008 after winning the election to become the President of the United States.

It’s kinda neat how “You have earned the new puppy that’s coming with us to the White House” fits in so well with the flow of almost any part of his speech.
