Red Tattoo digital still and video camera

October 31, 2009 @ 3:15 am

Engadget just got word of at least two brand-new RED digital still and motion cameras, one of which is the EPIC-X modular camera. RED has posted several press photos of a prototype version called “Tattoo” that costs about $28,000.

I’m not going to sit here and pretend I know what I’m writing about when it comes to RED technology and gear. Simply put, I just don’t understand it. It flies way over my head in everything and I end up judging the company based on their product images (which I have to say are damn good). See the gallery below of the Tattoo and some optional gear you can mod the camera with.

SNL shoots their videos with Canon 7D and 5D cameras

September 30, 2009 @ 11:15 pm

Here’s a bit of nice trivia: Philip Bloom recently found out that NBC uses Canon 7D and 5D still cameras to shoot lots of material on their show. In fact, the 7D and 5D were used to film the title sequences and some studio shorts, which is a big deal considering the fact that SNL previously used film or high-end digital video cameras (rather than a still-camera system).

Cat sneaking up on somebody without actually moving

Ok, of course the cat is moving. But every time the camera goes back to view the cat, the cat seems to be in the same stance as it was previously, just in a different spot on the floor. Thanks Chairman Meow!

YooouuuTuuube offers an interesting way to watch YouTube videos. It shows a series of cascading still images that move at the speed of regular videos. The result is both mesmerizing and confusing and also pretty cool to get lost in.

If you want to see the video that the screenshot above was taken from, you can watch it here. But you can enter in any YouTube video URL here to make your own.

Carousel by Adam Berg

April 20, 2009 @ 1:08 pm

This short film by Adam Berg was created to show off the new Philips Cinema 21:9 LCD TV. As you may have guessed from the name, the new Philips TV shows films in a 21:9 aspect ratio without showing any letterboxing at the top and bottom.

Created entirely by Stink Digital, this new interactive campaign promotes Philips’ latest entrant into the television market, the CINEMA 21:9. Since the television’s 21:9 frame lends itself so readily to film, our friends at Tribal DDB, Amsterdam commissioned us to create a piece of filmed content that could hold its own with Hollywood’s best. Director Adam Berg responded with an idea for an epic ‘frozen moment’ cops and robbers shootout sequence that included clowns, explosions, a decimated hospital, and plenty of broken glass and bullet casings.

You can visit the Philips Carousel website to play with the interactive video. [via]
