Boy believe to have floated away with helium balloon

October 15, 2009 @ 5:50 pm

I’ve been following this story for most of the afternoon and it just seems to be getting weirder and weirder by the minute. First, reports came in that a boy was floating away in a home-made helium balloon and cameras circled the object until it crash landed somewhere near Colorado Springs, Colorado. Then, when emergency crews looked into the balloon, they found that there was no boy inside! And now, some people are saying that the boy might not have even been in the balloon in the first place or that the kid might have fallen from the balloon while it was in the air (if that is the case, then that’s pretty sad).

In any case, this is still a developing story and the authorities are now looking for the boy.

The Boys: The Sherman Brothers’ Story

September 23, 2009 @ 12:09 am

the-boys

I really want to watch this documentary called The Boys: The Sherman Brothers’ Story. It’s about the song-writing duo Richard and Robert Sherman who ended up composing many of the classic Disney songs that many of us grew up with. The pair were legendary in their field and this new documentary takes a look at their craft, their relationship with Disney, and their relationship with each other over the years.

As far as I know, the film has already been released in select theaters and won’t be seeing a worldwide release anytime soon mainly because of its appeal to Disney buffs only (rather than larger audiences in general). In any case, I would love to see this film and get a sense of how some of the songs that I grew up with came to be.

Disney doesn’t understand new media so they aren’t letting me embed the film’s trailer from YouTube, so you’ll have to go here to watch it.

Di showed me this video of an amazing dog who has only two legs and uses them to walk upright like a human being.

The Olympus PEN Story

July 9, 2009 @ 8:55 am

Olympus is touting around this video of 9600 photographs re-shot over 1800 times as a stop-motion video to tell the story behind the Olympus PEN line of cameras. It’s nothing that hasn’t already been done before, but it’s still pretty awesome.

And here’s an interested tidbit about the video: Olympus claims they shot over 60,000 photos just for this.

Living on an eyelid

July 6, 2009 @ 1:50 pm

This short is based on the children’s book written by Brad Bischoff. It follows the story of Pal, a young artist who falls in love with a classmate and dreams of living on her eyelids so she’ll notice him.

Eyelid debuted at the Short Film Corner at the 61st Cannes Film Festival and went on to be the official selection of the Chicago International Film Festival (2008) and the official selection of the Sante Fe Film Festival (2008).
