The New York Times Lens blog has a nice gallery of photos looking back on the summer blackout of 2003. I remember the 2003 blackout very fondly and it was definitely one of the most special memories I have of living in New York City. Lens really brings it all back with this post. Heh.
Freshness has some pictures from the Summer 2009 collection of Married To The Mob whose aim was to produce images that epitomized “that summer every girl has where she is bordering the transition between being a girl and womanhood. The summer where she has her first kiss, and romance, and broken bone, and every inevitable experimentation that makes the metamorphosis so unforgettable.”
Wow, I think this is the fastest I’ve ever come to liking a new band in a very long time. I watched their music video for “The Reeling” (embedded below) and was surprised by how fun it was and how it made me feel so carefree. It gave me a sense of summer beginning and I have a feeling that it’s going to be a staple in my playlist for the entire 2009 summer session.
The first track off the album grabs you right away with incredible energy and that energy carries straight through from start to finish. I almost never agree with Pitchfork ratings, but for once we’re on the same page about Passion Pit.
I know this isn’t much of a review, but I figured you’d go ahead and make your own decision about this band anyway. So check out the video below and preview the album in the link after it.
Mark Hoppus, founding member of Blink-182, just announced on his blog (via a proxy, but it’s the same thing) that the band is getting back together and recording new music! The band is also set to tour in summer 2009! Neat!
