Angel is showing off some photos of the Optimus Prime Peterbilt truck from Transformers (1 & 2) on Sunset Boulevard in California. The photos were taken on June 24, 2009 and I am assuming that the truck will stay in front of the theater for a bit longer to ring in the release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

I’d appreciate any of my California readers in confirming this assumption. Or was the truck just there for the debut of the movie today? In any case, check out more photos of the truck here.

Cadillac Escalade on the New York City Subway

Wow, it’s photos like these that sort of make me miss riding the Subway in NYC and seeing all this crazy stuff that goes on below the streets. Grotesk saw this fairly large Cadillac Escalade power wheel toy on the platform at Union Square. The pictures really speak for themselves. Talk about blocking the entrance/exit…

You may have heard that an MTA truck struck a road sign on the Whitestone Bridge yesterday afternoon causing the bridge to get closed. Well, here’s a picture of that fallen overhead sign. Amazing that nobody was seriously injured.

If you’re curious, it looks like the bridge is back in operation this morning.

…into a truck!

Optimus Prime is featured front and center in this hilarious take on the famous Obama poster by Shepard Fairey. Nakatomi originally sold these as posters but they’ve since all been sold out. Oh well, looks like you’ll have to print it yourself.

A video of a truck pulling two 40-foot containers

January 5, 2009 @ 4:02 pm

One of my childhood dreams, believe it or not, was to grow up and drive trucks. That was it. I just wanted to drive a big truck. It was a weird thing to strive for at the time, but I think deep down inside, I’d still like to drive a truck. That’s why I’m so fascinated by such simple videos as this one showing a truck towing 2 40-foot trailers behind it.

I used to see these a lot in Miami, but living in New York City, I hardly ever see a truck hauling more than just one container behind it. I need to move to Australia — the country that seems to be the king of these types of road trains.

MAN truck on ice with ESP

January 5, 2009 @ 3:53 pm

This MAN truck with a trailer attached to it can be seen in this video doing a demonstration of its Electronic Stability Program on an ice surface. The truck’s ESP figures out which direction the truck is sliding and adjusts the spin of individual tires so that the truck does not lose control.

However, as you can see in this video, even the best ESP computers cannot assist with a truck driver who doesn’t slow down on icy roads. Of course, this is a test of extreme conditions, so in that respect, I guess MAN did pretty well here.
