In my extensive research of trunk-mounted bike racks, this one from Thule called the Raceway is the best. Tons of features and enough clearance from the car to avoid any sort of scratching. The only downside is that it’s about as expensive as a cheap roof rack.

And it’s not just a small crash either. The cyclist does some considerable damage to the back end of the car. And thankfully, it looks like the cyclist is ok. But damn, that is some crazy speed and stoppage there. I wouldn’t want that to ever happen to me. Video embedded above.
