This photo taken by Mike Clarke during the Cheung Yeung Festival shows Chinese family members paying tribute to their ancestors at a local cemetery in Hong Kong. I don’t recall seeing any cemeteries in person when I was in Hong Kong, but if I saw any like the one above, you can bet I would have done a double-take. Are most Hong Kong cemeteries like this? If so, that’s sort of awesome from a visual point of view.
This totally blows my mind. It’s weird to think that I live in a city that always seems to have construction going on and yet up until now I had no idea how cranes were put together. But now I know and knowing is half the battle! [via]
Here is the Space Shuttle Atlantis with a camera attached to its solid rocket boosters, giving us a view of the ride up into the beginning of space and then back down into the ocean.
I saw Disney/Pixar’s Up yesterday and I now believe it to be my favorite Pixar film of all. Yes, even better than the original Toy Story which has always held a special place in my heart.
I saw myself in Carl Fredricksen throughout the entire film. A man who loves exploring and traveling and going on adventures of all sorts, but was a slight bit grouchy all the time.
I know this review is coming very late after the film has already been in theaters for a while, but do yourself the favor and see it ASAP. It’s one of the best movie-going experiences I’ve ever had and the film has definitely bumped another movie from my list of top 10 for sure (I just don’t know which one…haha). When this movie comes out on DVD, I’m going to get it. And if it comes in a special edition package, I’m going to get that. And if there are Carl Fredricksen action figures or Dug action figures, I’m going to try and snag one of them (or both!).

By the way, I really hope Disney/Pixar licenses some company to make a gigantic Carl Fredricksen mask like the one seen above. The old man on the left of Carl is Edward Asner, the actor who plays Carl’s voice.
You’ve probably never seen this house, but a part of you might instantly recognize it as familiar? Why? Well, because if SFGate is to be believed, this is the house that the Up house was modeled after. The structure is permanently elevated about 10 feet off of the ground giving animators a good glimpse of what’s underneath which is probably useful for animation when the Up house flies away.
Anyway, there’s no official confirmation from the folks at Pixar, so you’ll have to take this one with a grain of salt.
