Kraft Foods Australia names new snack “iSnack 2.0″

Who at Kraft Foods Inc. (Australia) was smoking crack when they announced to the entire country that a new product based off of the Australian food staple, Vegemite, was going to be named “iSnack 2.0″?

Apparently, the company had no idea that Australians would be very unforgiving about the stupid naming idea and after much uproar about the new name, Kraft Foods Australia has decided to pull the product from shelves. Hopefully, they won’t be renaming it again any time soon.

Australia may ban Vegemite to curb obesity

The Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC) is considering a ban of Vegemite, a salty yeast-extract product that has been a staple of Australian culture since 1922. The Australian government has set up a preemptive task force to look into how the government can curb a rising obesity epidemic that rivals that of America. You see, Vegemite’s ingredients aren’t the most wholesome of all the products on grocery shelves.

The results of the task force aren’t due until June, but many Australians are apparently already voicing their opinions about a possible ban of the product. I don’t consider myself an Australian, but having had my fair share of Vegemite in the past year, I can say it’s definitely something that you have to grow up eating. Because God knows that brown stuff tastes like something else that’s normally brown.
