If you’re in Sydney, Australia right now, you should head over to Cockatoo Island to see the world’s only working real-life Warthog vehicle from Halo.

Take a look at a couple of more pictures here.

Audi A’KIMONO LS2.0 Concept

This incredible looking concept vehicle for Audio is called the A’KIMONO LS2.0. It is designed by Teodor Kyuchukov and features lighting design elements borrowed from traditional interior lighting practices seen in monuments, sports facilities, and architectural buildings.

The concept was somewhat based around the idea that most car designers design the exterior of the car in such a way that makes it virtually invisible at night. So Teodor designed this concept which lights the exterior of the car as if it were just as important as the interior, allowing anybody to know immediately that they are being trailed by one of the meanest-looking vehicles on the road.

At the moment, there are no decisions to put this car into development (I don’t think there ever will be), but you can bet that someone at Audi is looking at this and taking some of it as inspiration for a future production vehicle.

Military reindeer vehicle

My friend Melanie came back from Iraq after serving a long time in the US Army and showed me this funny image of a military vehicle dressed as a reindeer for Christmas. I love how the tongue is sticking out on this vehicle. Makes me laugh just looking at it!

Lockheed Martin’s Multiple Kill Vehicle successfully tested

December 10, 2008 @ 6:00 pm

Last week on December 2, Lockheed Martin successfully conducted a test of their Multiple Kill Vehicle-L at the National Hover Test Facility at Edwards Air Force Base in California. The test was conducted to see whether the machine could hover in the air for an extended period of time while locked onto a target. In the end, the MKV-L managed to hover for about 20 seconds at a height of 23 feet while locked onto a target.

At first, I thought the rapid-fire sound was the machine shooting bullets, but upon further viewing, I realized that it was most likely the sound of the rocket that keeps in afloat in the air. In fact, I’m not even sure that this thing is firing any sort of projectile (it’s simply locked onto a target).

Check out the hi-res image of the one above at Lockheed Martin. And below is the test video that was released with the image that shows several different views of the test.

NYPD vehicles now have the rumbler siren

November 25, 2008 @ 6:33 pm

It’s official. I just heard an NYPD police vehicle equipped with the Rumbler siren speed down my street. I certainly felt the vibrations coming from the siren and I am very impressed! These will do well in cutting through all of the distracting NYC noise.

I posted previously about the Rumbler and how it uses low-frequency sounds to literally vibrate you (or the vehicle you are in) so that you are aware of the police siren even in loud areas.

Here’s another awesome example of the Rumbler siren in use on the West Side Highway.

November marks deer mating season, so drive carefully!

October 30, 2008 @ 4:49 am

The Associated Press is reporting that animal-vehicle fatalities are on the rise and that 223 people died as a result of these types of accidents on the road.

In addition, statistics show that November is the highest month in terms of animal-vehicle accidents because it is in the middle of fall mating season.

So the general rule to follow, at least for the next month or so, is that if you’re driving in a deer-infested area (trees?), then be alert and drive slowly.
