I remember watching the MTV Video Music Awards this year and taking note of the beautiful transitional video pieces shown on screen. I had no idea who made them at the time, but I made a note on Twitter about how lovely they all seemed. It turns out that an LA-based graphics design company named Prologue are responsible for the look and they’ve been working with MTV on the Video Music Awards motion graphics for the past 3 years.
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, head on over to Motionographer to watch all of Prologue’s VMA videos back to back. Is it weird that MTV asked an LA company to do NYC-related video promos?

If you watched Sunday’s VMAs, you might have noticed that Lil Mama managed to get herself up on stage during Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ performance of “Empire State of Mind”. I was so confused when I saw it because I couldn’t really tell right away if it was planned or if Lil Mama was hijacking the stage, but in this MTV interview, Lil Mama admits that the stunt was not planned and that Jay-Z “wasn’t feeling it”. If you woke up today and wasn’t quite sure why Kanye West and Taylor Swift were making huge media headlines, here’s what you need to know to be filled in: Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech after she won the award for Best Female Video at the MTV VMAs. He rambled on about Beyonce and basically insulted Taylor Swift and every respectable attendee and viewer of the show.
Thankfully, Beyonce later allowed Swift to complete her acceptance speech. To sum it up, I think The New York Times says it quite well.
Beyoncé called Ms. Swift out to the stage to let her make the speech Mr. West had train-wrecked. A soul singer making room for a young country star who’d been bullied by a rapper: it was indelibly 2009.
Kanye really outdid himself this time.
