No, that’s not a typo in the title and that’s no Photoshop trickery in the image above. The Washington Nationals baseball team actually became the ‘Natinals’ when two of their players — Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman — donned team jerseys that misspelled the team’s name. [via]

There was buffalo riding at the inauguration

Captured posted this very funny shot of a buffalo rider riding his buffalo in front of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson during the inauguration on January 20, 1961. It’s funny to think that at one point in time this was considered good entertainment for the President during the inauguration ceremony. And I guess at the time it was enjoyable because JFK and Johnson are clearly smiling and applauding this buffalo and its rider. Ride on!

Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapse in color

February 2, 2008 @ 12:59 am

I didn’t know that there was a color video of the original Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapse. I’ve seen the other black and white newsreels of the bridge’s collapse, but for some reason, seeing it in color is just more satisfying.

Apparently, the widely circulated videos of it in black and white are largely due to news stations at the time copying the original video (which was shot with 16mm Kodachrome color film) in black and white.

Nicknamed “Galloping Gertie” for reasons that are quite obvious, the original Tacoma Narrows Bridge only lasted 4 months before collapsing into the water below it.

I’ve included the black and white newsreels below, in case anybody was interested.

The narrating in this newsreel is spectacular! Haha.

Another old newsreel, also with great reporting.
