In this photo taken in 2008, researcher Matt Kaplan found that sperm whales actually do take periodic naps. And when they do, they do it vertically in the water with their noses/snouts sticking just above the water’s surface. Freaky!
A surfer floating on her surfboard near some kayakers got a very close call this past weekend when out on the water in Santa Cruz.Two huge humpback whales breached the surface of the water to feed on some anchovies and nearly swallowed and landed on these nearby folks. Scary! Thanks Chris!
I really miss diving. I never got to see whales like this up close, but I can imagine the experience to be quite breathtaking. Jeb Corliss is the man for filming this.
This upcoming film called Big Miracle is based on a true story about whales stuck under a thick sheet of ice in Alaska. I want to see this.
