Fish bowls are usually very public spectacles. They sit out in the open and allow anybody passing by to view the fish and its contents at any time they please. But with the 1984 Fish Bowl from Workshopped, there can now be some privacy for that pet fish you own because this fish bowl features solid white walls and 3 domed windows for you to peer into or for the fish to look out from. A nice twist on the traditional all-glass fish tanks that I’m used to seeing.
I think this is my new favorite music video. It’s directed by Michel Gondry and it was made for the song “Star Guitar” by The Chemical Brothers. The video is made to look like it was continuously shot from the window of a speeding train but Gondry somehow made the objects outside the window sync up with the beats in the song which no doubt makes for an awesome visual trick.
I wish everything that passed before my eyes went along to a dance beat.
Browser Ball looks like something you wouldn’t want to waste your time with. I mean, who would want to throw a virtual ball around in your monitor? But ahh! There’s something else to it! You see, Browser Ball is an experiment in advanced Javascript, and as nerdy as that sounds, this is what makes it utterly satisfying to play around with.
Browser Ball attempts to make an endless array of continuous space using nothing but browser windows to connect one space to another. The white space in each additional browser window becomes a new space for the ball to be thrown into or dragged into. You can create as many browser windows as you want to make your space bigger. Then, give the ball a “kick” and watch as it bounces effortlessly from one window to the next all while remaining on its intended path of motion.
Normally, we think of browser windows as individual entities with no real interaction between them but Browser Ball fills in this void and makes it sorta fun in the process.
I’ve been fooling around with MacPilot for the past couple of days and I’ve come to realize that Unix-based operating systems (like OS X) are incredibly powerful and customizable and that they’re dumbed down by default to accommodate the average user.
MacPilot is like Microsoft PowerToys for Mac OS X — but with steroids. I won’t go into all the fancy crap you can do with it but I do want to show you how awesome the hidden “suck” effect for minimizing windows is.
Why Apple doesn’t make this an option in their drop-down menu is lost on me, but it’s so much nicer than “Genie” and “Scale”.
CP linked to this amusing video and animation from Oscar winner Jessica Yu about the misconceptions of conception that people are told when they are young. Jessica interviews adults and asks them to recall their stories and fears about how people got pregnant and had babies. Some of the stories are very funny. Just watch it and enjoy.
