Amazon.com now has a dedicated wireless store in beta that makes shopping for a new wireless phone and plan as simple as ever. The site breaks the plans and/or phones by carrier, features, price, color, or brand. Plus, with Amazon.com’s great deals on mobile devices (with a new contract), this might be the cheapest place you can purchase a new phone.

The newly announced Belkin Home Base looks like it could be useful sitting on my desk, connecting me with my external harddrive, my various thumb drives, and a USB mouse. My only gripe is that the 4 USB ports are stacked in such a way that you can only fit the slimmest of USB devices together in there. I think the ports should have been vertical and positioned side by side. It’s a nice idea, but I’m having trouble justifying the $129 price point for what is basically a USB hub. Tell me what’s the real deal in the comments.

This is the wireless internet speed at the 5th Avenue Apple Store in New York City. How do I get this piped into my home?

This item may look like any other old light switch, but under its Lucite case is the means for you to remotely turn off almost any light that plugs into an outlet! You see, this Remote Light Switch from Tobias Wong is a very awesome contraption. It comes with a remote receiver that you plug into the end of an outlet and with the flick of a switch, you can turn off that light (or appliance) as long as it stands 100 feet from the switch!
I can imagine scenarios where this switch would come in handy, such as the situation I find myself in EVERY NIGHT when I’m already too tired to get out of bed to turn off my light. I could simply have this remote kill switch next to my bed and use it as a secondary switch for when I’m feeling extra lazy.
Unfortunately, this remote light switch costs $150 and $250 for a gold limited edition version. It would be convenient if I owned this, but $150 is a lot to pay (even if it is only once) for maybe 6 less steps every night. This one will have to go in my “if I had all the money to spend in the world” file.

I have very high respect for Brian Chen and his job of reporting on gadgets and technology, so I don’t mean this comment in a bad way at all towards him. I just find it incredibly distracting and awkward the way Brian keeps looking back at the camera as the person he’s interviewing is talking to him (or talking about the product). It’s just…very weird looking.
Anyway, good stuff demonstrated here from Powermat, a company that makes mats that can charge devices wirelessly in real-time.

All the information you need to know:
- $299 with 2-year AT&T contract
- $375 with 1-year AT&T contract
- $550 with no contract
Oh, and the most important thing is that it’ll be released on November 4, 2008. That’s the same day as Election Day in the United States…
Anyway, did you know that AT&T had student discount rates?
