Highlights from You’re My Favourite

In a couple of days, it will be a month since I first started posting photos at You’re My Favourite. For those who don’t know, You’re My Favourite is my photoblog where I dig into my personal archive of photos and showcase some of the images that have inspired me and helped me develop my photographic eye over the years. I believe I’ve been able to post at least one photo a day (if not more) since mid-May and so far the experience has been very satisfying.

Here are some highlights from the past week or so:

  • Portraits – This one is a rare gem. I love how the frames are all a bit crooked and how everything in the photo looks like it hasn’t been touched in years. Actually, that’s probably true.
  • Portland Airport
  • Avenue of the Americas
  • Spencer Street Station
  • Flatiron Building – It glows!
  • Caution – This is a photo of one of those scenes in real life that looked so weird at the time of passing that I just had to stop and capture the moment on film. This is truly deserving of the ‘favourite’ tag.

Finally, I just wanted to say THANK YOU to all that have been keeping up with my postings over at You’re My Favourite. I appreciate the kind words and I’m glad some of you are enjoying the photos. :)

Riverbank State Park: an elevated park along the Hudson River

Of all of the years that I’ve lived in New York City, I have never once heard about Riverbank State Park, a sizable recreational park located above the North River Water Pollution Control Plant. For the first time today, I went there and it is such a great place! There’s a lot of basketball courts, tennis courts, a full-size oval track, a baseball field, and a good amount of open space that you would not think to find in the middle of Manhattan.

I didn’t see it, but according to the New York State Parks website, Riverbank State Park also houses an Olympic-size swimming pool that is housed under 5 separate buildings! Getting to Riverbank State Park is quite wonderful too because you have to travel across this pedestrian bridge which puts you right over the West Side Highway (and over the Amtrak train tracks that lead into the Freedom Tunnel).

It’s a nice place to sit and get a view of the Hudson River, so if you’re in the area (around 138th Street or 145th Street), I recommend you check it out if you haven’t already.

If you’re interested in seeing some of the early developmental shots that eventually led to nurture my photographic eye today, head on over to You’re My Favourite where I’ve been posting some older photos from some of the earliest archives of photos I’ve been keeping. It’s interesting to see some visual motifs that I still live by in my photography today. If you like it, I encourage you to subscribe to You’re My Favourite so that you can receive fresh updates whenever I post something new. Thanks!

As you might have noticed, I’m trying to get as many people to view my new photoblog as possible. Over the weekend, there were quite a bit of changes so I’ll just go over them quickly as bullet points.

  1. Official name change: My photoblog is now called You’re My Favourite and is located at the convenient URL of youremyfavourite.com.
  2. Facebook and Twitter comments: You can now comment on photos at You’re My Favourite using your Twitter or Facebook account.
  3. RSS feed location: If you subscribed to You’re My Favourite via RSS before Saturday, you’ll have to update the feed location as its URL has changed (to this). But it’s a simple process and I’d be delighted to have you follow me once again.

There you go! That’s all. I’ve been posting a steady stream of fairly large pictures so head on over and check it out. If you like, subscribe and keep up with my favorites!
