AWV points to this video of a guy at the zoo that was uploaded on April 23, 2005 at 8:27PM. That makes this video the first video ever published to YouTube. Impressive and yet so unimpressive. Weird.
Feeding time at the zoo
August 22, 2009 @ 7:02 pm

Cool4Cats sells this neat mechanical card kit that shows a line of school children being devoured by a crocodile. For only $12, it’s a pretty amusing contraption to put on your desk to show people. Check out a video of it below. [via]
Thailand paints elephants to look like pandas
June 27, 2009 @ 2:07 am

Have people in Thailand just gone crazy? Apparently zoo keepers have decided to paint the elephants at the zoo black and white to look like pandas after public interest drifted from elephants to pandas after the birth of a female panda cub. Of course, The Daily Mail would have photos. [via]
Mooks x Salad Design support local zoos
February 17, 2009 @ 2:50 pm

Salad Design sent me some images of their collaboration with Mooks to help support local zoos in Australia. Their limited edition Mooks T-shirts were packaged in traditional supermarket meat packs, complete with saran-wrap and a a slab of meat next to the Mooks logo.
It’s great to know that Mooks is still collaborating with local Australian artists to help out local venues, as that’s sorta how the company got started in the first place.
Disclosure: I used to work at Mooks.
Jealous rhino runs loose at Australian zoo
December 10, 2008 @ 10:31 am
A teenage male rhino broke free from his enclosure after he “got a whiff” of his “girlfriend” being paired up with another male rhino across the road. Zookeepers at the park in Adelaide were then led on a 12-hour chase to calm the rhino down before shooting it with 3 tranquilizer darts.
In the end, nobody was hurt, and the jealous rhino was put back in his enclosure. Isn’t it funny to see a rhino running around so free?
Real penguin cheered up by stuffed penguin
November 9, 2008 @ 1:56 pm

This picture just makes me laugh. I mean, look at that stuffed penguin and those googley eyes! How funny is that!
Apparently, the news story here is that the real penguin was becoming malnourished due to an over-aggressive sibling, so The Living Zoo at Torquay took him away from his family so that he could get bigger and stronger on his own. But since he was taken away from his family, the baby African penguin named Pengu became lonely and so the zoo bought a cheap stuffed penguin for him to hang out with.
The stuffed penguin looks nothing like Pengu which makes the situation that much funnier. I really wish technology could give us an insight into the minds of animals, because I’d love to know what Pengu is thinking.
The Daily Mail has more photos for you to indulge and laugh at.
