Father of fallen Muslim soldier gives a powerful speech at the DNC 2016

July 29, 2016

Of all of the speeches at the DNC 2016, none moved me more than this one by Khizr Khan. He is the father of a US soldier killed in combat and a shining example of what America truly looks like. America isn't white, racist, and dividing. It is hard-working, different, caring, and loyal to this country, a fact that Donald Trump would love you to forget by constantly spitting out extremely broad and false accusations at the very people who have built this country up and protected it from danger.

Khan here is absolutely right. If you go to Arlington Cemetery and visit the graves of fallen soldiers, you aren't going to be presented with the America that Trump is alluding to. No, you'll see an America that is from all cultures, backgrounds, ethnicities, and histories. That is what makes this country great. We're already there. And we certainly don't need a leader whose platform is based on hatred and prejudice.

One of my favorite Brutalist structures, the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. state office building. It is a giant concrete building shaped like an African mask (it has "eyes" on the side).
