Urban beekeeping at Wilk Apiary

August 22, 2016

I hate insects. But there's one exception that seems to not bother me like the others. Bees. Something about bees makes me like them a lot. They don't really bother you, they don't try to hurt you unless you are hurting them, and they do a very important job of pollinating flowers to keep local ecosystems thriving.

In NYC, Tom Wilk of Wilk Apiary is an urban beekeeper who tends to bees and harvests their honey. Some of that honey gets used in local restaurants, like the one below!

One of my favorite Brutalist structures, the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. state office building. It is a giant concrete building shaped like an African mask (it has "eyes" on the side).

This is how I started the year -- in Atlanta exploring quarries and trying to hop fences into train yards in the Bronx (it didn't work out). Then I photographed some brooms in Brooklyn. #contactsheets #contactsheet #filmscan #6x7
