Just about every year around this date, I post a little something about Hurricane Andrew. I lived through this and remember parts of the experience very vividly. Looking back, it was one of the few times I can remember ever seeing my mom cry -- we had returned to our home the next morning and stood face to face with the utter destruction. No ceilings, no roof, and all of our belongings strewn about. I distinctly remember the little storage space underneath the stairs being the only place that was virtually untouched and still intact. I also remember finding Barney all wet and gross.
What a time and what a memory! Hurricane Andrew still remains to this day the 4th costliest hurricane on record amounting to approximately $26 billion in damage.
