Fascinating profile on Harvey Levin and the TMZ celebrity gossip empire

I just finished reading this profile on Harvey Levin over at The New Yorker. For those who don't know his name, Levin is the founder of TMZ, one of the biggest celebrity gossip websites in the world. But you'd be mistaken if you only thought they dished on celebrity gossip. In the past few years, they've broken tons of other stories related to sports and government and have slowly made themselves a name in the news business. They just happen to really love reporting on celebrities as well.

On the surface it's easy to dismiss TMZ as fluff. But since it's founding, Levin has pushed TMZ writers to dig deep into stories the same way he was trained to do as a law student and later a teacher of law. It's this insatiable drive for proof that makes his TMZ network so controversial (TMZ is often accused of blurring the lines of journalism ethics to procure sources and media).

If you want a really good long read for the day, put this one at the top of the list.
