I didn't know this until recently, but inside the KITH store on Broadway is a cereal ice cream bar that serves crushed cereal bits in soft serve. It's actually quite delicious. It's not advertised from the outside (since it is primarily a shoe store) but the design and execution of this dessert bar is right up there with the best of them in the city. It's cute, delicious, and certainly sweet. Stop on by for a good treat.
I love Eddie's Sweet Shop in Queens. It's the perfect combination of old-school cool and delicious dessert. What isn't there to like? It's messy, chaotic at times, and stocked with lots of sweets! Definitely one of the best things about NYC outside of Manhattan.
I wanted to like this so much more than I actually did. For the price of admission, I really didn't like that it was essentially a guided tour. No free roaming allowed and we were constantly pushed from one room to the next in large groups. Despite being labeled a "museum", the Museum of Ice Cream was really just a photo-op for ice cream-related things. There was a little bit of written and oral history given to viewers, but really they just wanted us to take photos to generate some buzz. Overall, not such a great experience.
A nice little video about the daily life of a NYC ice cream truck operator. It doesn't sound like a dream job, but this man seems to be quite cheery about it.
