The Arsenal Gallery in Central Park is showing a fantastic series of images taken in the '70s by NYC press photographers who were left jobless during a newspaper strike in 1978. I saw this the other day at 34th and 8th Avenue. It's one of the city's new boxes for free periodicals and newspapers. These do away with the plastic standalone versions and incorporate a see-thru plastic door with handle to keep out the elements. They certainly look a lot nicer than the old ones. Not sure however if these are only for the Herald Square-ish area or if these are being rolled out citywide.
