I am so curious to see this new substance called "vantablack" in person. I think this is truly one of those times where a video and a photo just doesn't do the object justice. If you don't know what it is, vantablack is a somewhat recent scientific invention that carries the distinction of being the blackest material ever made.

Basically, it's a black hole that you can hold in your hands. It absorbs 99.965% of visible light. As you can see in the videos here, shining a light or even a laser over it means that you won't get any reflection whatsoever. That's a little freaky. Here's an example of it next to a bronze statue.

Commercially, the material is being used in aerospace functions and at least in one artistic endeavor currently being carried out by artist Anish Kapoor. If you want to buy it, you can't.
