10 years since SNL's Digital Short: Lazy Sunday

I just finished reading this post over at One Perfect Shot about the runaway success and legacy of SNL's "Lazy Sunday" Digital Short. It doesn't feel like it's been that long, but in fact the video just celebrated its 10th anniversary (it originally aired on Dec. 17, 2005).

This was the video that would eventually launch the music careers of The Lonely Island and catapult Andy Samberg to worldwide stardom (along with Chris Parnell of course). It's insane how quotable and singable these SNL digital shorts have become and it's very likely that they wouldn't even exist if it weren't for the success of Lazy Sunday (there was a Lazy Sunday's sequel).

To give you an idea of how different the digital landscape has become, in December 2005, YouTube was barely a year old, Hulu (where all of SNL's videos official reside) didn't exist, and we didn't yet have any of the insanely successful videos from The Lonely Island.
